EARLY TREATMENT

IT’S NEVER TOO SOON TO START A GREAT SMILE

Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment. Beginning treatment at this optimal time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontics suggests that children be seen for an orthodontic exam by the age of 7. At that age, we can advise of any functional orthodontic problem and when the appropriate timing for treatment is indicated (or not). As far as first phase interceptive orthodontic treatment goes, the truth is we aren’t particularly concerned if the teeth are just crooked at an early age (still has many baby teeth left and a few adult teeth in place) unless the crooked teeth are resulting in social issues for the child.

TREATMENT FOR KIDS

We DO care at this time that FUNCTIONALLY the teeth come together properly – (cross-bites, giant overbites, teeth that stick out so far that there would be a risk of fracture, not enough room for teeth to come in, or close to the proper position). These types of problems we often address at an early age. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but with a complete orthodontic examination and periodic monitoring, we can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin any needed treatment. We provide this initial exam and monitoring at no cost to you, so please take advantage of this opportunity for your child’s sake!
