Every fall, once the costumes are put away and the last porch light clicks off, families end up with the same dilemma: what do we do with all this leftover Halloween candy? At Facing the Future Orthodontics, the answer has been the same since 2008—turn it into something good for the community.
The annual FTFO Candy Buy Back is one of our favorite traditions, and it’s become a simple, meaningful way for local families to support their schools, protect their smiles, and share some sweetness with people who need it most.
How the Candy Buy Back Works
The idea is intentionally simple. Kids go out trick-or-treating—safely, responsibly, and with full enthusiasm. After the night is over, they sort out the candy they really love…and the rest gets a new purpose.
Each participating school collects donated Halloween candy from students. We come by, pick it up, and buy the candy from the school as a donation to their PTA. The more candy collected, the bigger the donation.
As Dr. Grazina explains in the program video, “It’s really quite simple… you get to eat the candy you like, give the candy you’re not a fan of away, and it becomes both a donation to your PTA and a gift that we send to troops overseas.”
Why We Do It
FTFO has always believed orthodontic care extends beyond straight teeth—it’s about healthy habits, strong communities, and giving kids the tools to grow confidently.
The Candy Buy Back reflects all of that:
- It supports local schools.
PTAs use our donations for events, supplies, teacher support, enrichment programs, and more—real resources that directly impact local students. - It promotes better dental health.
Let’s be honest: a little candy is great, but mountains of sticky sweets aren’t exactly smile-friendly. The buyback gives families an easy way to cut down the sugar load without cutting into the joy of Halloween. - It helps others in need.
The collected candy is shared with troops overseas and donated through the Veterans Town Hall, spreading a little comfort and appreciation to people who serve.
A Tradition That Keeps Growing
What started back in 2008 as a small idea has grown into something meaningful for schools across the community. Every year, we’re excited to see the participation, the creativity from PTAs, and the pride kids feel when they help make a difference.
It’s proof that something as simple as leftover Halloween candy can create a ripple effect—supporting education, strengthening community bonds, and encouraging healthier choices along the way.
Happy Halloween From FTFO
As Dr. Grazina puts it: “Have a great time, have fun, and be responsible.”
We’re grateful to every child, parent, school volunteer, and staff member who helps make the Candy Buy Back a success each year.
Here’s to another season of costumes, candy, and community impact—we can’t wait to see how much we collect this year!
