Orthodontics for Children

Turning Young Smiles into Healthy Smiles

Bringing your child in for an early consultation puts their smile on track to develop healthily and happily.

Dr. Vic and Dr. Hailey work hard to make sure your child is comfortable in our office and in one of our chairs.

From there, it’s all about checking for any potential problems that might arise in their future as they grow. It’s our job to catch and protect their young smiles as they develop.

High Five Program: Scheduling Your Child’s First Visit

While the American Association of Orthodontics advises an orthodontic evaluation for your child no later than age 7, we recommend scheduling an evaluation for children as young as five years old as part of our High Five Program.

At this stage, your child’s mouth will start to show the early signs of jaw development and any emerging permanent teeth. Dr. Vic or Dr. Hailey will examine your child’s growth to start early orthodontic planning and set them up for a future of healthy smiles.

Early assessments during your child’s younger years can pinpoint developing issues and allow us to use simpler, more effective, and often cheaper treatments than if waiting to treat later.

Laying the Foundation

After your child’s first evaluation, Dr. Vic and Dr. Hailey may recommend starting early treatment, or Phase 1, to target any potential orthodontic problems.

Phase 1 usually lasts 8 to 12 months and uses personalized treatments to guide the development of your child’s face and jaw. This movement sets the groundwork for a well-balanced smile.

After Phase 1, your child will continue to come in for regular check-ups so we can keep an eye on new teeth eruptions and decide if further Phase 2 treatment is necessary.

Precision With Phase 2

Phase 2 treatment usually begins around the ages of 11 to 14, when most of your child’s adult teeth are in place.

If we notice that your child’s smile needs an extra hand, Dr. Hailey and Dr. Vic will craft another personalized treatment plan that puts the final touches on their smile.

Signs to Look for in Your Child’s Smile

Here are a few key indicators to look for to know if your child needs orthodontic treatment:

  • Crowded or missing teeth
  • Premature or delayed loss of baby teeth
  • Challenges in biting or chewing
  • Speech difficulties
  • Prolong pacifier use
  • Narrow palette

Orthodontics for Teens

Guiding Your Teen
Through Treatment

The teenage years are super important for orthodontic treatment.

Whether your teen missed — or didn’t need — Phase 1 treatment or is moving to Phase 2, our team will support, reinforce, and strengthen their journey to a confident and beautiful smile.

Empowering Your Teenager

As your child hits their teenage years, they’ll experience a wave of personal growth, memorable firsts, and lots of socialization. In a time where social media and social pressures are a huge influence, a confident smile can make all the difference.

At Facing the Future Orthodontics, we do more than straighten teeth — we craft smiles that boost self-esteem and encourage your teen to shine during these important years.

When to Begin Your Teens Care

While we use the American Association of Orthodontists recommendation to schedule your child’s first assessment by age seven, we understand that’s not always the case.

If your teen hasn’t had their initial check-up, our office is ready to get them started. Orthodontic treatments like clear aligners or braces begin around the ages of 11 and 14.

Treatments Made for Teens

Every teen’s orthodontic path is different, with treatment lengths typically lasting from 14 to 24 months.

At Facing the Future Orthodontics, we use the latest orthodontic treatments like Damon self-ligating braces to reduce treatment times and create your teen’s dream smile faster with the same great results.

The Importance of Treatment

Teen orthodontics not only improves looks — this treatment is also the key to long-term oral health. Proper treatment boosts the function of your teen’s mouth and prevents issues like gum disease, decay, and TMJ disorders.

Reducing these future complications saves your teenager time and money from more complex treatments in the future.

Choosing the Right Treatment

Your teen has a range of treatments at their disposal to fit their specific needs, lifestyles, and activities.

From innovative self-ligating metal and clear braces to discreet clear aligners, Dr. Hailey and Dr. Vic work closely with you and your teen to find the treatment plan that’ll fit them best.
